On the 30th the team visited ASPRODES in Purias (Lorca) the biggest organization working with disabled people from the whole region of Murcia. Apart of the residence that they have with the capacity to host more than 200 beneficiaries they have established several medium-sized enterprises – a carpentry workshop, a textile workshop, a bakery, greenhouses and agriculture field producing diverse number of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. The products pf the enterprises are either sold directly to companies or exposed in a shop in the centre of Lorca managed by the organisation itself. Some of the production is used for own consumption and purposes. The most impressive part was the visit of the big plant owned by ASPRODES producing eggs and derivative products. The enterprise produces around 80 000 eggs per day. They also pack, sell and export eggs from other producers in the region. They are the biggest producers of eggs in the region. The organization also possess a rabbit farm. All the enterprises hire people that are residents of ASPRODES and have diverse disabilities, being supervised and mentored by other staff. That improves both the social and the economic status of the beneficiaries. The organization is a religious organization working more than 40 years with people with diverse problems.
